Ohio results: Hackett couldn't quite hack it

But oh, he got soooo close.

This CD in Ohio includes some of the poorest areas in the state i.e. trailers on cinder blocks with junk cars in the yard, a kind of land time forgot. I wonder if he got tanked in these areas or in suburban Cincinatti.
    Too bad.

I heard that he did better in the rural areas, whereas Schmidt did better in the suburbs.

It is too bad he didn't make it, but it's still a huge victory that he even got so close. Definitely a good sign of things to come.

Sorry. I don't concur. A loss is a loss no matter how you slice and dice it. Schmidt's going to be eating her fill at the Congressional acfeteria while Hackett's going to be eating MRE's again while dodging mortar shells. I am so sick and tired of people saying that this is a "moral victory." A moral victory doesn't get you into Washington but an immoral victory will.

Read my blog for more detailed thoughts on the matter.

I disagree--Hackett got way closer than the Republicans ever would have expected, and he made Schmidt fight her ass off for what should have been an easy victory. The Republicans had to pour money into a race that they should've had locked up, in a county that went overwhelmingly for Bush.

This is a good sign because it shows that Dem candidates who are outspoken on the grassroots level and dare to challenge Republicans can make a difference. Maybe Hackett lost, but the next Dem who tries his strategy might win. Not to mention that Hackett himself could run again, now that he has such big name recognition as the underdog ass-kicker.

And it's a huge blow for the Ohio GOP, which has really been in trouble ever since the coin scandal. Ohio was the only reason Kerry isn't president now, and if we can turn Ohio blue, then we can get elect a Dem pres in 08. It's such a strategic victory even though it's a loss in the short term.

Only Democrats congratulate themselves on a loss... :)

BTW - No Air America coverage?
*sigh* Boinkette AND the NY Times both.
